The World Bank will offer a loan of 100 million US dollars to assist in the improvement of the environment in southwest China. The loan will be used for water and soil conservation projects, which will be undertaken in southwest China's Yunnan province; in Guizhou province; in the Chongqing Municipality and in central China's Hubei province. The four regions have all suffered serious water loss and soil erosion, due to both natural causes and human activities. The projects are expected to restore the soil and water to an area of some 3,014 square kilometers in the above four regions within 6 years. |
