2005-12-02 Beijing Time
CHINA'S first non-coastal nuclear power station may be in Zhaoqing City in Guangdong Province, Yangcheng Evening News reported today.
Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Co signed a frame agreement with Zhaoqing City about the nuclear power cooperation.
The company is selecting the location for the new station, which will be evaluated on technology, economy and environment.
Experts said Zhaoqing is a good place because the city has begun preparation for setting up a nuclear power station. It has advantages in environment, water supply, Internet and equipment, the report said.
China has four nuclear power stations, which are in coastal provinces where the booming economy has caused serious power shortages.
